SPEAKER: Frank Murphy
TOPIC: “Archaeology in Ireland”

Overview

In 1998 he came across an archaeology project looking for volunteers to survey an Iron Age farmstead and to excavate a collapses cairn that probably covered a Neolithic court tomb. For four years, two weeks each summer Frank helped in the survey and excavation, mapping the location of ancient walls and unearthing a court tomb that, since, has been carbon dated to be nearly 4000 years old.

He will talk about his experiences, what was found and what was learned and will talk about archaeological activity in Ireland.

Biography

Frank has been a member of the IMCA since 2010 and has served as Treasurer and Communications Director. During his career in manufacturing and financial positions, he was responsible for the location, construction and startup of a factory in Ireland. His frequent visits to Ireland were often extended to include sightseeing and finding family roots. While exploring western Ireland he became fascinated by the prehistoric monuments, forts and farmsteads nearly everywhere you looked.
