SPEAKER: Melburn Park, Ph.D
TITLE: Limits to Economic Development in Oceania
Mel considers Honolulu his home town and growing up in Hawaii gave him a deep interest in Polynesia and a curiosity about why economic life varies so much throughout the Pacific islands. His talk will present his ideas on some of the reasons for this. Culture plays a part but the abundance of or lack of basic resources are also a major factor. Water is the most basic of these resources and even in the developed state of Hawaii water determines where people can prosper or not.
